Late this afternoon I stopped into Au Pied de Cochon ("At the Foot of the Pig," one of the classic old restos next to Les Halles, which used to be the central market of Paris) for a restorative soupe à l'oignon gratinée - not the best in town, but there's nothing like French onion soup to get ya goin' again.
As always, I had a coffee after my meal, and as always it was served with a little something extra. The "something extra" is usually a little square of chocolate, or a small cookie, or a meringue, or a chocolate-covered almond. This time it was sweet little pink meringue pig's foot! Too cute (although the eyes and nose on the hoof are a bit creepy)!
I can feel a whole theme party coming on, or a line of custom meringues for restaurants and receptions and special occasions. Extra bonus: they're tasty and low fat (see...I do know that some people care about such things).
