A quarter-size replica of the Statue of Liberty, originally one of the working models made while planning the "real thing," was given to the city of Paris in 1889 by the American community in Paris to commemorate the centennial of the French Revolution. It stands, facing its big sister to the east, next to the Pont de Grenelle bridge crossing the Seine. Here's the view of it from our café table after class today.
France gave the U.S. the Statue of Liberty in 1886. I haven't been able to find any info on how the American community in Paris got their hands on this quarter-size model to give back to France as a gift, so if any of you know, just give me a shout!
A few minutes later in the Uber on the way back to the apartment, I was reminded exactly where I was!
